Katrina Zaccone

  • College of Veterinary Medicine Chair
Katrina Zaccone is a third-year Doctor of Veterinary Medicine student at Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine and is honored to serve for another year as the College Chair and Senator Representative for the College of Veterinary Medicine within the Graduate and Professional Student Senate (GPSS).

Originally from Pennsylvania, Katrina earned her undergraduate degree in Animal Science with a minor in Equine Science from Penn State University. Her lifelong involvement with horses ultimately led her to pursue veterinary medicine, where her primary professional interests lie in equine medicine and theriogenology. Throughout her education, she has sought opportunities to expand her clinical and industry experience through equine research, hands-on horse management, the Kentucky Equine Management Internship, and equine-focused externships.

Beyond her clinical interests, Katrina is passionate about student leadership, advocacy, mentorship, and strengthening communication between students and university leadership. In addition to her involvement with GPSS, she serves as President of the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine Class of 2028, where she works to represent the interests of her classmates and foster communication among students, faculty, and administration.

As College Chair and Senator, Katrina hopes to continue ensuring that veterinary students have a strong and meaningful voice within GPSS while increasing awareness of the resources and opportunities available to professional students across Iowa State. She especially values creating connections between students from different professional and graduate programs and advocating for initiatives that positively impact the student experience.

Outside of veterinary medicine and leadership, Katrina enjoys spending time with her animals, riding horses, and staying connected to her agricultural roots. She looks forward to another year of representing the College of Veterinary Medicine and contributing to the broader Iowa State graduate and professional student community.
