2025-2026 Senate Committees

GPSS Committee membership is restricted to sitting Senators and Executives only.

Awards Committee

The Awards Committee handles/reviews GPSS sponsored awards, such as the Margaret Ellen White faculty award in mentorship, the GPSS Research/Teaching/Leadership awards and the Wakonse Fellowship through CELT. Members of this committee will manage rubrics, score applications, and select finalists. If you are interested in joining the Awards Committee, please contact gpsspresident@iastate.edu.

 Rules Committee

The Rules Committee prescribes all general and special rules of procedure necessary for the orderly consideration of Senate business. The Committee meets whenever new legislation is submitted to the vice President to be brought to the Senate, and will not typically meet more than once a month. Finance Committee

The finance committee normally meet once a semester to make decisions on the allocation applications, which could be $1000 a year for each student organization. In the meeting of spring semester, we also discuss about the budget of the next fiscal year. If you are interested in joining the Finance Committee, please contact gpsstreasurer@iastate.edu.

Social Committee

The Social Committee assists with planning and executing GPSS-affiliated social events, including the Fall and Spring Socials. If you are interested in joining the Social Committee, please contact gpssvicepres@iastate.edu.

Conference Committee

The Conference Committee assists the Conference Chair in organizing and executing the annual Graduate and Professional Student Conference. This Committee is most active as the Conference approaches in the Spring. If you are interested in joining the Conference Committee, please contact gpssconfchair@iastate.edu.

Election and Operations Committee

The Election and Operations Committee has several responsibilities for ensuring the proper functioning of GPSS, including ensuring that all positions are filled, supervising elections of the Executive Council, and updating the GPSS website. University Relations and Legislative Affairs Committee

The URLA Committee handles questions regarding public and university policy on graduate and professional students, advocates on behalf of graduate and professional students to local, state, and federal officials, and recruits students to fill vacancies on University Committees. Marketing and Public Relations Committee

The Marketing and Public Relations Committee creates marketing for the GPSRC, maintains the GPSS social media, and increased communications regarding GPSS and their constituents. GPSS Special Committee on Graduate and Professional Student Wellness

This special committee was formed on September 3rd, 2019 under Senate Order F19-04 to address the needs of graduate and professional students with regards to all aspects of wellness. Inquiries, suggestions, and/or concerns should be directed to gpsswellness@iastate.edu.
